4 roasted to death in Bayelsa auto crash clash
Four people yesterday died in a ghastly motor accident along the East-West when the Toyota Hiace bus they were travelling burst into flames after hitting another vehicle while trying to overtake a Toyota Seina vehicle.
The accident happened very close to the Zarama bridge, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
According to eyewitness account, the Toyota Bus with plate number YA 820 AAA wanted to overtake the Toyota Seina with plate number BJ 292 BWR at top speed when it pushed it off the road, lost control and fell off the road into a nearby farm. It immediately burst into flames with the occupants shouting for help.
While the occupants of the Toyota Seina said to be a family of eight travelling to Aba were lucky as they only sustained injuries, three occupants of the Toyota bus travelling to Calabar, Cross Rivers State were roasted beyond recognition and others suffered several degree of burns.
Mr. Amabebe who said the Toyota bus crashed into his farm before exploding said over speeding was the cause of the accident.
“I heard a loud explosion before the vehicle caught fire. The bus suddenly burst into flames. We rushed to the scene and were able to rescue seven of the passengers “he said.
Checks indicated that the bodies of the deceased and those who sustain injuries have been moved to the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri.
In an interview, the Unit Commander of Sagbama local government, Chukwuma Ukaegbu blamed the accident on total disregard to traffic regulations by the drivers of the two vehicles.
“The Siena bus and Toyota bus were on high speed. They were attempting to overtake one another before the accident occurred.
We have been able to rush eight victims to the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri.
According to him four persons were burnt to death as they were trapped inside the vehicle and died before help could come. The state Commander of the FRSC, Vincent Jack who confirmed the accident said FRSC officials are on top of the situation at the scene of the accident.
